The 4th Sector

WELCOME TO THE 4TH SECTOR

Thanks for checking out this blogg. It is the center point for a movement which I hope will take on like wild fire across the world. It will take time... but with the power of the Internet, the overwhelming desire for change, and the empathy of the human spirit there can be a shift in perspectives, power, and influence.

What is the 4th Sector??

For those of you who do not understand the 'sectors' I will write about the other 3 at the end of this post.

The 4th Sector is a hybrid between the 3 sectors. It is often referred to as a FOR BENEFIT corporation. Its a for profit business that has social aims for change. It is a business in the business of providing help to those who need it. There are a few "GREEN" companies that fall into this sector... or even Mesa Power owned by T.Boone Pickens. The clearest example I can think of is Warren Buffett and Burkshire Hathoway.

Since Warren Buffett donated a considerable amount of his shares of Burkshire Hathoway, a company he founded, to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the profits generated by those shares now go to the foundation as a renewable source of income. We will talk more about the benefits of the fourth sector in a later post.

The basic and bare principle is that a company is build around creating revenues to help people, to serve people and our communities and to make our world stronger. The old business model strictly for profit and greed can quickly be over.

BE PART OF THE FOURTH SECTOR!!

Q

3 sectors:

The 1TH Sector is typically referred to as the BUSINESS SECTOR. A portion of our economy that works with profit aims. This sector ranges from small mom and pop shops to large multinational corporations like WAL-MART and Texaco. Profit is the motivation and these companies are mostly privately owned or at the least managed by a small group of individuals.

The 2nd Sector is the GOVERNMENT sector. This is where you tax dollars work hard for very little. Government is the largest consumer in the world and they also have the highest levels of waste and inefficiency. Huge bureaucracies built on ancient business models that get alot done but at a very ineffective rate.

The 3rd Sector is the NON PROFIT sector. The non profit sector is usually at the grass roots level and does the most good for the most people. Unfortunately most nonprofits are understaffed, underfunded and have very little in means of resources to really enact the help that they want.
